  1. 0:02welcome welcome back welcome back to alien eyes photos industry talk everyone
  2. 0:12this is episode 6 we are journaling audio journaling audio blogging or we
  3. 0:22call it podcasting yes episode 6 of alien eyes photos industry talk I am
  4. 0:31moving like a train like a locomotive they may say in episode 6 I would like
  5. 0:39to talk about value let's talk about value and now if you're tuning in for
  6. 0:48the first time I like to keep these episodes pretty short close to 23
  7. 0:52minutes like the old-school TV shows 23 minutes and a 30-minute time slot on
  8. 1:00TV not counting commercials so yeah let's just jump right into it value now
  9. 1:08they say value is the importance the worth the desirability the measure of
  10. 1:14something beneficial and standards principles and usefulness in our
  11. 1:22usefulness let's say some may also say it is their beliefs are what is
  12. 1:27right or wrong value optimally guides decisions and then if you remember in
  13. 1:36episode 3 titled decision-making where I broke down decisions and the
  14. 1:41importance of decision-making that is a great episode to go back and check
  15. 1:46out if you have not listened that's episode 3 decision-making episode 3 of
  16. 1:56on decisions it's a quick juicy one a good question to ask yourself will be
  17. 2:06what do you value what in life or your career do you value also to further that
  18. 2:19thought what is your value so what do you value and what is your value two
  19. 2:32questions to propel you in life and also your career in our entrepreneur
  20. 2:39journey I like to think of the economics concept of economic costs
  21. 2:47when I think of value when choosing between multiple options you're giving
  22. 2:54up the potential gain of the option you don't choose it is the value of
  23. 3:00but you give up when you choose one option over another going back again to
  24. 3:09episode 3 when I spoke on decision-making opportunity costs is
  25. 3:15purely about decision-making in your decisions that lead and guides your
  26. 3:21life it weighs the advantages to the disadvantages saying yes to something
  27. 3:28it's given up another thing or something else or somebody if you want
  28. 3:37to take it down that road it's given up something and sacrifice for
  29. 3:44something else whether that's time a resource a person place thing if you
  30. 3:50go here well they're not going to be able to go there if you go to the
  31. 3:55versus going to the studio well you just missed out on that studio time for
  32. 4:02having fun our time with the family if you want to go out to the on a date
  33. 4:11versus spending time with a family and kids well you better drop them kids
  34. 4:18off and y'all go on that date are if you take in one business move versus
  35. 4:24another it's a sacrifice and you have to choose and I like how episode 3 it
  36. 4:32starts off with that and then it leads to this because your decisions and
  37. 4:39values go together they date they couple they're in the same group in
  38. 4:47the same family it's important so think about your decisions think about
  39. 4:52your value and what you value another thing another man's trash is another
  40. 5:02man's treasure so if I threw out let's say oh basketball card I have no use
  41. 5:12for I don't it's just I don't need these no more I don't need these
  42. 5:17basketball cards but little do I know it's worth ten million or ten grand or
  43. 5:28even a billion or whatever the value may be to some of these cards but I
  44. 5:33want to get rid of it because it's just you know I don't want a hoarder
  45. 5:37and just keep all this stuff you know I want business books instead of
  46. 5:40business baseball cards or basketball cards because I like basketball but
  47. 5:46never owned any basketball cards I had Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh but that was you
  48. 5:51know childhood never owned any sports cards no basketball no football no
  49. 5:57baseball cards but yeah these basketball cards end up being ten grand ten
  50. 6:06million a billion in value but I don't know it because I'm trying to
  51. 6:12you know away for a couple dollars thinking oh I don't need this no more I
  52. 6:19don't see the significance or importance of it I don't see the value
  53. 6:22in it or doesn't have value to me but someone that collects these cards
  54. 6:32these basketball cards they know the value and have value in these cards and
  55. 6:39they buy it from me for pennies dollars and they know the worth and get
  56. 6:47that ten grand that ten million that billion dollars whatever the worth may
  57. 6:53be collectively told you I'm one of these days I'm a spit of palm well
  58. 6:59just freestyle palm or a rap or something for y'all y'all gonna really
  59. 7:05really really get some good behind the scenes content of me and my poetry one
  60. 7:15day one of these episodes but yeah I digress so back to that another man's
  61. 7:32trash is another man's treasure you do not really like money some do but you
  62. 7:41don't really like money you like what money can give and provide for you you
  63. 7:49like the outcome money can give you you don't really like money itself the
  64. 7:55credit or the paper dollars the penny nickels dons quarters 50 cent pieces
  65. 8:01you like what it can give you like the freedom the time and things of
  66. 8:09nature but do you like money itself I don't think so sorry guys I'm adjusting
  67. 8:22this time lapse so I have a little content for y'all as this is not
  68. 8:28traditionally a video podcast this is strictly audio but gotta have some
  69. 8:35content I am a video producer do a lot of video production event
  70. 8:40photography so I gotta have some type of camera work what would I be if I don't
  71. 8:46have any camera work and I am in this profession right but I love time lapses
  72. 8:53it shows the process and the speedy time and you know a lot of people's
  73. 8:57attention span is not long so kind of you know see the whole process and
  74. 9:02the short amount of time shout outs to the time lapse and whoever made
  75. 9:06time lapses another concept I would like to bring up let's talk about cars
  76. 9:17speaking about more cards let's let's talk about the game of cards let's
  77. 9:23talk about blackjack and my last name is Jackson hence photographer Jackson
  78. 9:28photographer Jackson so blackjack it's definitely close not the founding what
  79. 9:40they say creator of the game but it's close to my name oh my goodness one of
  80. 9:46these days I'm gonna spit a poem for y'all it's just natural I'm sorry no I'm not sorry but it's
  81. 9:54sorry for the weight that's what I want to say but going to blackjack I like to
  82. 10:00say never split tens so I always think about that never split tens that's a
  83. 10:08ten a queen a king a jack king queen jack or ten never split tens a blackjack
  84. 10:21metaphor to the second highest hand after 21 it is a classic game of 21 or
  85. 10:30the closest to the number 21 without going over with the value cards of 10
  86. 10:37each which is 20 I would never statistically gamble or sacrifice the
  87. 10:46second closest to a winning hand with 20 yes I would never split tens and
  88. 10:58sacrifice the second closest to a winning card hand with 20 only to
  89. 11:04hope for two more chances of 20 take the 20 while you have it most people
  90. 11:13experience and be bold because they want to experiment and be greedy and split
  91. 11:25the value ten cards and hopes to get another ten value card back to back
  92. 11:32when there is a two or three or four or five or six seven eight nine
  93. 11:42yes nine eight seven six five four three and two value cards as well which
  94. 11:49is a higher chance of receiving one of those cards versus another ten value
  95. 11:56card statistically or normally with 52 cards per deck there are 16 value
  96. 12:07ten so 16 chances to receive a ten value card minus the two tens you
  97. 12:16already have which would be 14 chances out of 52 plus another four chances of
  98. 12:24receiving an ace which is a value of one or a value of 11 card with a ten
  99. 12:36it is automatically 21 so you have an ace and a ten it's automatically 21 if you
  100. 12:43get that dealt first that's a blackjack if not you just have 21 you
  101. 12:48win a little bit more on a natural blackjack if you dealt that first but
  102. 12:52if you split tens you just win even money but the chances are slim with
  103. 12:5928 value cards lower than a ten which is that two to nine so again
  104. 13:09never split tens take that 20 because the chances are slim again 28 value
  105. 13:19cards are lower than ten which are two through nine and is most likely to
  106. 13:27happen then splitting tens and receiving another ten or an ace another
  107. 13:36analogy for it is splitting or breaking up two powerful leaders that
  108. 13:42complement and work well together dividing them have the reverse momentum
  109. 13:49and go directly downhill this is why I always suggest never split ten never
  110. 14:04split tens just check my backup audio says it paused deal with that a
  111. 14:15little later as long as I got this I should be fine so I'm gonna keep
  112. 14:19speaking more on the value going back to what do you value what is your value
  113. 14:28and I know I can speak about me well let's start with music and poetry I
  114. 14:37did a lot of open mics which is you know I had to pay to perform and then
  115. 14:43I end up knowing my value as the more and more more I did these open
  116. 14:49and you know I looked at it as practice and I started performing and hosting and
  117. 14:55touring which is fun but at the time a lot of money for poets wasn't wasn't
  118. 15:08higher or at least the markets I was in they were not lucrative to have a
  119. 15:16which was definitely ago and I could have got there but I used to pull out
  120. 15:27my phone take pictures and record others on my iPhone shoutouts to Apple
  121. 15:33Apple iPhones and then send it to them and I'm like why not just invest in
  122. 15:38a camera and once I invest in a camera I never look back I started
  123. 15:42studying taking courses watching videos doing masterminds had a couple mentors
  124. 15:48luckily to a sale my path in the media visual media with photography and now I
  125. 15:58specialize in event photography a lot of video production podcast
  126. 16:02production a lot of behind the scenes work so if you need some behind the
  127. 16:06scenes content or if you need content creation in general definitely
  128. 16:11let me know you know send me a message visit alien eyes photos dot com or you
  129. 16:17can follow me on social media at alien eyes photos dot com and that's eyes
  130. 16:23like your eyeballs with a Z and photos like the pictures with an S alien eyes
  131. 16:29photos yeah and then going started my company alien eyes photos media you
  132. 16:39used to do a lot of free events just on my own will just to practice make
  133. 16:45sure I got you know all my ducks in a row eggs in a basket and then I started
  134. 16:53with $50 photo shoots now this is not events to just strictly portrait
  135. 16:58photo shoots and headshots over time you know slowly increased that but
  136. 17:05for the longest I was $50 but $50 now I can't do anything I can't pay
  137. 17:12I could barely pay myself in which you know a lot of the revenue that I did
  138. 17:18incur or gain obtain no pain no gain in my first two years I didn't pay
  139. 17:29myself at all you know I wanted strictly for my business you know for
  140. 17:35my business to grow and all the software I have to pay for you know if
  141. 17:39I hire you know contract people out you know of course I got to pay them so
  142. 17:44staff you know all the help the systems a lot of that is the programs
  143. 17:51even the education a lot of that cost and so I was just reinvesting in
  144. 17:56myself and you know I haven't took a penny from my business and so long I
  145. 18:03paid myself once in these first three years and I'm still not paying
  146. 18:07myself so I do have a nine-to-five job to sustain myself my bills and my other
  147. 18:18obligations and family stuff I had to pay for bills finances taxes expenses
  148. 18:29you know this goes on emergency stuff so yeah working a job some too but I'm
  149. 18:40like I cannot do two jobs and run a podcast this is before I started my own
  150. 18:48podcast before I started alien eyes photos industry talk I am the proud
  151. 18:53producer creative director over at the pull up experience to pull up
  152. 18:59podcast and the pull up experience is the premier entrepreneur elevation group
  153. 19:07here in Cleveland Ohio definitely my production partners and media and then
  154. 19:16to further extend I am in launch arts media shout out to launch arts
  155. 19:22media my other production partners we do a lot of video production a lot of
  156. 19:29events a lot of green screen work so if you really want that big production I
  157. 19:34have an extended team at launch arts media definitely contact them or me
  158. 19:40because I am a part of the team and yeah we could get you handled with
  159. 19:45all your media needs but again increasing that volume starting at 50
  160. 19:52and now I'll say transparently my hourly rate which I try not to charge
  161. 20:01hourly but it breaks down and people relate to that the most which
  162. 20:07calculates about three hundred dollars an hour so you could do with
  163. 20:11math and I know weddings it could be a little bit more but for an event
  164. 20:16typically three hundred dollars an hour photos could be a little less video
  165. 20:23could be a little more but average is about three hundred dollars an hour now
  166. 20:28I will tell you this for those who want to book me if I don't have to
  167. 20:35edit it would be a lot less cheaper for you trust me I incentivize those
  168. 20:44who do not want me to edit because that's just I love my time and it was
  169. 20:47like okay I show up for the event or do the photo shoot or whatever and then
  170. 20:52I got to go home I go to the office go to the studio and sit behind a
  171. 20:56computer and edit when I could just give you the files right there if you
  172. 21:01have an inside editor or someone you work with or you do a lot of video
  173. 21:07editing you put videos together yourself you just need the footage oh I'm your
  174. 21:13if I just got to shoot it I am there and I'm be excited about it because all
  175. 21:20I got to do is film or take the photos and send it to you and that's
  176. 21:25just me knowing my value of time like I could do two or three events versus
  177. 21:31one and not to edit you know all of this stuff and that's why a lot of
  178. 21:36photographers videographers charge more because it's it takes time to edit
  179. 21:41it's more time than the event and the photo shoot the little details that the
  180. 21:46chops it's it's a lot trust me we don't just be saying these prices just to
  181. 21:53say these prices you know it's also you know our expertise this is our
  182. 21:58cameras our lighting like all this equipment our training the time on a
  183. 22:04back end a time on the front end these these pre to cause the
  184. 22:08discovery cause going down the rabbit hole with all the list of things we have
  185. 22:13to do and I have a long list and I really have it and I do send it out
  186. 22:17for those that ask for it because it's a lot but again know my value if
  187. 22:25if I don't have to edit I will gladly send it to you right then and
  188. 22:33there within 224 hours usually I say 48 just to be good but 24 hours
  189. 22:41but also don't be putting filters not speak for myself but I know a lot of
  190. 22:47photographers they don't like you putting filters on their work especially if
  191. 22:50they edit it already don't put a filter on it but if you don't know
  192. 22:55how to edit just just just be a front because we don't want you just
  193. 22:59messing up our work are you because you know we want you to look good and
  194. 23:05be a visual representation of yourself again that's knowing your value now some
  195. 23:14of the things I value like I said it's time now I want you to reflect what do
  196. 23:22you value again time is one of my biggest freedom is one of my biggest
  197. 23:30love I value those things community coaching event photography I value
  198. 23:39those things I look at myself as a historian document a time document a
  199. 23:45history and that's why I love it when people contact me like oh I want you
  200. 23:52to be there at my event to document everything and I'm like everything well
  201. 23:57what's important what are the things you value and we kind of limit it down to
  202. 24:02that and I capture it of course I capture the extra are the good moments
  203. 24:07the fun times the experiences the essence of the event the story telling
  204. 24:11I cater it I document I'm a real visual historian so again if you want
