- 0:00Welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome
- 0:05back to Alienize Photos Industry Talk.
- 0:11Let's discuss my creative business coaching style.
- 0:18Now what is my business coaching style
- 0:26as a creative and for creatives?
- 0:29Creative entrepreneurs, it's a good question.
- 0:37But I wanna put it out there
- 0:42when I'm coaching and mentoring others,
- 0:45my words and feedback are about the actions and outcome
- 0:49rather than the person, individual or company.
- 0:53I am doing it in the need of the goal, the goal at hand.
- 1:02If you are doing good work, keep doing it.
- 1:10But if you're not, I will call you out on it.
- 1:19You want this goal,
- 1:23but the actions are not leading up to you getting the goal.
- 1:27And we both know that.
- 1:30We had come up with a change, a solution.
- 1:36I'm always creatively problem solving,
- 1:42thinking of solutions, thinking how can things be better?
- 1:52So if you tell me you want this goal,
- 1:56you really wanna do something, you really want this,
- 1:59you want this outcome, this result,
- 2:04but you're not going in the direction,
- 2:08the route, the steps that's needed to get there.
- 2:19So yeah, I will have to call you out.
- 2:21But if you're doing good work,
- 2:22like I said, keep doing the good work.
- 2:25I encourage the good work.
- 2:27We celebrate the good work and keep going, you know?
- 2:32Make it a habit of doing good work.
- 2:35Turn it to great work.
- 2:37Turn it to amazing work.
- 2:39Have it keep evolving, you know?
- 2:45Eliminate distractions and let us focus on the needs done.
- 2:54Excuse me.
- 2:57Eliminate the distractions and let us focus
- 2:59on the work that needs to be done effectively.
- 3:03I'm gonna just get a sip of water before I continue.
- 3:06But you know, with that being said,
- 3:09emotions, a blur judgment.
- 3:14Gotta stay hydrated.
- 3:17I remember when one of my old basketball coaches
- 3:20used to tell me, keep my arms straight.
- 3:26I was semi-stuck in the method,
- 3:31in the habit of shooting, you know, my own way.
- 3:35It took me longer to adjust.
- 3:38You know, I would just do the opposite almost.
- 3:44I'm like, I'm doing it right.
- 3:45That's how you show me.
- 3:47But I guess like last minute, or I do what I do it,
- 3:50then like last minute, you're like, oh, almost.
- 3:54But I don't know, I was young,
- 3:57and sometimes I would twist my wrist
- 3:59instead of flicking my wrist.
- 4:02Like I was like slightly twisted
- 4:04instead of flicking and keeping my arms straight.
- 4:09Elbow probably outer than it need to be, you know.
- 4:14So some things I had to learn,
- 4:18some things that I definitely took in
- 4:20and still remember and I appreciate.
- 4:24But yeah, that simple principle stuck with me.
- 4:27And now that I'm much older
- 4:29and just started back playing basketball
- 4:31every now and then, you know, you know how I be.
- 4:35I got to ease into it.
- 4:39The remainder, I should say the reminder
- 4:47of the foundation of shooting.
- 4:54You know, that little memory is a reminder
- 4:58for the foundation of shooting, you know.
- 5:02And the things that we learn,
- 5:07that's simple, that's basic,
- 5:11can really change outcomes or lives.
- 5:19It could be that little tweak of the fundamentals
- 5:23or the basics could get you a long way.
- 5:30Sometimes you don't need the big grandiose things,
- 5:35the lavish things, the newest thing,
- 5:42what is working, what is working.
- 5:48And that should always be the goal,
- 5:52what is working and how it is improving,
- 5:58those two things.
- 6:03Now, like I said, that principle of that basketball,
- 6:10shooting and keeping my arms straight
- 6:13stuck with me for all these years.
- 6:16An old lesson from my basketball coach,
- 6:18Myron Jackson, and maybe it's a Jackson thing,
- 6:21you know, I'm Steve Jackson,
- 6:24also known as Photographer Jackson,
- 6:26many call me alien for my brand,
- 6:28alienize photos, media, and then also former,
- 6:33musician, alienize player.
- 6:36You can catch my music on all streaming platforms
- 6:38in alienizeplayer.com.
- 6:42But yeah, I'm very appreciative,
- 6:48you know, years and years later,
- 6:52I am certainly shooting a basketball
- 6:53better than I was in school.
- 6:56It's a testimony of how much of a student I am
- 7:00for everything that I pursue and engage,
- 7:03relentless on getting better, improving.
- 7:09I also had a chance to coach at the YMCA
- 7:13for two summers straight,
- 7:15to volunteer and coach the NBA Cavs Junior,
- 7:20AY and W, or YMCA.
- 7:25I think it was both though.
- 7:28YMCA hosted a program sponsored by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
- 7:36I still coach, but now it's creative entrepreneurs,
- 7:41and you could be one of them.
- 7:44Be sure to reach out and let me know
- 7:46what you need help with.
- 7:51And you know, I'm a laid back person,
- 7:56but when it's show time and you know,
- 7:59change needs to happen,
- 8:01and with change comes the transformation.
- 8:05When you make it a habit,
- 8:07and the habit you make it concrete,
- 8:10and you be consistent and never change,
- 8:14and keep doing your thing.
- 8:20But having that peace,
- 8:24which I preach a lot,
- 8:28you know, never let anyone or anything
- 8:30disrupt your inner peace.
- 8:32Never ever let anyone, not even yourself,
- 8:36disrupt your inner peace,
- 8:38as we can sometimes get in each other way,
- 8:43our own self way,
- 8:46be a blockage for our own self,
- 8:48our own reflection,
- 8:51our own goals, our own thoughts, our own movements.
- 8:56You know, we could really get in a way
- 8:59and you know, stop and block our self, you know.
- 9:15I've learned being an artist,
- 9:23being an entrepreneur,
- 9:26being in so many rooms,
- 9:29being in so many industries,
- 9:31around so many industries,
- 9:33network with so many industries,
- 9:37you know, did video production and photography
- 9:39for so many industries.
- 9:43Just shaking hands with people in different industries.
- 9:49Always, you know, kept that creative mindset.
- 9:55You know, it's also fueled by my entrepreneurship
- 10:00because let's be real, I just want to create and,
- 10:03you know, locked in in the studio,
- 10:11locked in writing, locked in filming,
- 10:16content creator, building,
- 10:22using my imagination to come up with something,
- 10:25something brilliant, something beautiful,
- 10:29inspiring, impactful.
- 10:33That's what I love using my creativity on.
- 10:39And that's what, you know,
- 10:41most creatives want to focus on,
- 10:43most artists, creatives want to focus on.
- 10:52But it got to be fueled by the entrepreneurship.
- 10:55You got to love it so much that
- 10:57the business part of it is just like one cohesive circle.
- 11:03It all runs together.
- 11:08And I encourage any and all creative
- 11:14artists to have that entrepreneur mindset.
- 11:21And to have episodes on the entrepreneurial mindset,
- 11:26that growth mindset that's needed
- 11:30to step in to becoming a creative entrepreneur.
- 11:36I'm a creative, so, you know,
- 11:40I don't have to be one dimensional, but I can.
- 11:46We can make it a creative function
- 11:50and really get you on a path that needs you,
- 11:58get you on a path that needs you.
- 12:08So, I'm about to get up out of here,
- 12:12got to eat dinner.
- 12:14It's been a long day.
- 12:16I've been putting a lot of work in, catching up on work.
- 12:21But, yeah, I know I'm kind of
- 12:26having inquiries on, you know, my coaching.
- 12:29So, I just want to put it out there
- 12:31on my coaching style in advance, you know.
- 12:36I'm very laid back, but I'm wise, resilient,
- 12:41easy to work with.
- 12:43And, hey, I've been through some things.
