- 0:01Day nine of my social media sabbatical.
- 0:08Let's talk about awareness,
- 0:13and to be exact, digital awareness.
- 0:17But let's start with awareness.
- 0:21Awareness is the state of being conscious
- 0:24and cognizant towards something.
- 0:28Paying attention to what is happening in the present moment,
- 0:33whether it's your thoughts, feelings, behaviors,
- 0:39surroundings, and all impact your actions.
- 0:45Now think about awareness
- 0:47as having a spotlight on your experiences,
- 0:51rather operating on autopilot.
- 0:58Awareness is what you think about.
- 1:05And when I say it's what you think about,
- 1:10it's your informed intelligence.
- 1:15It could be what your environment is telling you.
- 1:25But I wanna shift gears a little bit
- 1:26and speak about digital awareness,
- 1:31which is your effectiveness and safety
- 1:38of digital technology.
- 1:41And now we get into artificial intelligence, AI,
- 1:47the impact of online interactions,
- 1:51individuals, society,
- 1:53and the risk of opportunities in the digital world.
- 1:59Technical knowledge, critical thinking,
- 2:03data privacy and security, as I mentioned,
- 2:09adaptability and how to be proactive
- 2:13and how we learn these new technologies
- 2:18and adapt it to our life and the landscape
- 2:23of our business and life in general.
- 2:30Now awareness has to do with observing,
- 2:35noticing patterns, noticing patterns,
- 2:37noticing patterns and understanding cause and effect,
- 2:45being present in this moment versus, again,
- 2:50on autopilot or operating automatically.
- 2:56So you have to be conscious with this digital awareness.
- 3:07So what are the patterns
- 3:09you are taking in?
- 3:13What are the patterns you are realizing?
- 3:22What are the patterns that keep coming up in your life?
- 3:29And think about your digital footprint.
- 3:34What type of digital footprint are you creating?
- 3:39The data you are creating and leaving behind,
- 3:44what information are you sharing?
- 3:46And how might that be used for other people,
- 3:52for other businesses?
- 3:55How are they using your information?
- 4:02Have you ever thought about that?
- 4:07And now I wanna get a little personal.
- 4:13That was just the logistics and kind of definitions
- 4:16of awareness and digital awareness.
- 4:20And awareness is big, especially like me, traveling,
- 4:28being in new cities and states, places I've never been.
- 4:34I have to have a sense of awareness,
- 4:38the sense of my surrounding, the environment
- 4:41where I'm at, what I have with me,
- 4:44what I have on and my target.
- 4:48I have to be aware of many, many things.
- 4:54What is going on in this place that I'm going?
- 4:57Do I know?
- 4:59What's on the news?
- 5:02So we take it digital when we take it online
- 5:05and on social media, which is this is day nine for me
- 5:10being on social media.
- 5:11I'm not aware of what's going on in social media land
- 5:15and in the news and all this good stuff.
- 5:18I'm sure I will be aware once I get on,
- 5:22but right now I'm loving this break,
- 5:26I'm loving this time, loving my productivity,
- 5:32but digital awareness is key.
- 5:38It's things for real, it's things fake.
- 5:42You wanna constantly ask that question,
- 5:45especially in this digital age with AI,
- 5:49artificial intelligence, we're gonna ask that question.
- 5:54Is this real or is it fake?
- 5:58Is this real news or is it fake?
- 6:02Is this a real character or avatar person
- 6:06or is this a fake person or avatar character?
- 6:11Is these cartoons really real made up by a human
- 6:20or by artificial intelligence?
- 6:24That was taught by other humans,
- 6:27but it's not 100% correct.
- 6:32So where do we cross the line?
- 6:37Where do we say stop?
- 6:42Where do we continue to build that awareness
- 6:46where awareness may not be absolute?
- 6:54Makes you question a lot of things, right?
- 7:00Because if I'm aware of what I'm doing,
- 7:05I'm conscious, I'm knowledgeable,
- 7:09I know what's going on,
- 7:14or at least I have a sense of what's going on,
- 7:18but we type in our emails just willingly
- 7:22to many different sites,
- 7:25to these different lead magnets
- 7:26and lead magnets are free information,
- 7:30our tools, our gadgets, whatever that may be,
- 7:36our inexpensive gadgets, tools
- 7:39to collect your information,
- 7:43to sell you at a later time
- 7:47or put you in a pipe system, it's a lead for them.
- 7:52So that's what lead magnet is for.
- 7:54Like I don't have lead magnets right now,
- 7:57but I am going to get one soon
- 8:00because it's important for business
- 8:03to build your email list and your ecosystem.
- 8:07And I only want your email.
- 8:08A lot of people ask for email,
- 8:10your address, your phone number.
- 8:13Me, I just want your email.
- 8:15Let's constantly be in communications
- 8:18and be on my newsletter.
- 8:20Let me help you.
- 8:22If you are a creative entrepreneur,
- 8:25I want to learn more.
- 8:26And if you are creative,
- 8:28wanting to be an entrepreneur,
- 8:31join the email list.
- 8:33Check the show notes.
- 8:35This is of course to be on the email list
- 8:38and to subscribe.
- 8:42By the way, I'm tired, so bear with me.
- 8:45It is 2 p.m. my time.
- 8:51I just got to Vegas for a BPCon
- 8:57and I will be doing some recaps
- 9:00from day one, day two, and day three.
- 9:03Day one is a half day.
- 9:06Day one, and day two, and day three.
- 9:10I may put them all together.
- 9:11I might break it up.
- 9:13I don't know, but I know I got to be consistent
- 9:17and bring this content.
- 9:19And this is day nine.
- 9:22Tomorrow, I get on social media at,
- 9:29well, it'll be midnight, nine p.m. in Vegas.
- 9:34So technically, nine p.m. will be midnight
- 9:37back where I stay in Ohio.
- 9:41So will I wait the full 10 days
- 9:44and just be like, well, it's midnight here or there.
- 9:50Here is nine p.m.
- 9:53I don't know.
- 9:55But I definitely documented the process
- 9:59and I appreciate everyone that followed along.
- 10:03And it actually did the sabbatical with me.
- 10:06I had a lot of feedback and people that said
- 10:10they was thinking about doing something similar.
- 10:15And I appreciate that.
- 10:17And I hope they meant what they said
- 10:19and actually took time away.
- 10:24And digital awareness, you have to have breaks
- 10:27no matter if that's a few hours throughout the day,
- 10:32if you're heavily on social media
- 10:34or a couple days away or like me,
- 10:38a little over a week, 10 days.
- 10:41This is my 10-day sabbatical and I'm on day nine
- 10:46and I've done well.
- 10:48I haven't touched social media at all.
- 10:53I deleted the apps.
- 10:55I stay away.
- 10:58I was aware if I had it on my phone,
- 11:01I would've slipped up and probably clicked it.
- 11:03So I was aware enough to get rid of it
- 11:06and delete the apps all together.
- 11:13And I challenge you to do the same.
- 11:16Start with three days, start with five days.
- 11:20Some people be at work or on their studies,
- 11:27just watch some TV, just on social media,
- 11:30it's all in the background.
- 11:33It's like a habit that you can't break or shake.
- 11:39Just on in the background as you're doing other things.
- 11:43Why?
- 11:45Are you even aware of this?
- 11:47How much time you are spending on social media?
- 11:51How much time are you spending on your phone?
- 11:54Now there's a study that I think is over 80%
- 11:59of people wake up within the first 15 minutes,
- 12:03they're on their phone,
- 12:04and I'm pretty sure within those 15 minutes is social media.
- 12:09So are you really aware of your actions
- 12:12on what you're doing, your visual awareness?
- 12:20Now, I recently got a massage.
- 12:26Me and my lady got a massage
- 12:30and often we give each other massage
- 12:32and we'll be like, wow, this feels good.
- 12:37I never know I was sore in this area.
- 12:43As we give each other full body massages,
- 12:46like wow, I was sore near my ankles
- 12:51and my ligaments over here, over there,
- 12:56I had neck pain, didn't know about,
- 13:00until we just gave each other that massage.
- 13:06And I even think about with our business,
- 13:09how we're massaging our business,
- 13:12like where are our pain points?
- 13:14Where are we sore at in our business?
- 13:19Where are things that we are not aware of?
- 13:22Just like I wasn't aware of my pain
- 13:24in certain areas of my body
- 13:26until I got the massage on my lady,
- 13:32rubbed me and all over until I started moaning
- 13:36and groaning like, wow, this hurts.
- 13:39Do that again, put some more oil on that, rub that spot.
- 13:45You know, I don't have the courage,
- 13:47but I'm a massageist because they're more professional
- 13:50and I'm like, yeah, just cover everything.
- 13:54I'm hurt right here, target that spot.
- 13:57But you know, I'm with a loved one.
- 13:59But it could be a little more personable.
- 14:03And we do a little more support,
- 14:06just like, you know, she had the shoulder blades
- 14:11and rub them, she didn't know she had that pain there.
- 14:17Like near underarms, stuff we never even think about,
- 14:23like wow, didn't know I was sore, it hurts, it aches.
- 14:28Yeah, continue right there, rub that a little harder,
- 14:32a little more pressure right there.
- 14:35So what are things in our business
- 14:38on our entrepreneur journey that we are not aware of
- 14:43that can easily be massaged and taken care of?
- 14:48What are our pain points that we are not aware of?
- 14:53Now think about when we're online on social media,
- 14:58what are some of these pain points online?
- 15:04What are these pain points in social media
- 15:08that we are not aware of?
- 15:11And that's why this is our digital footprint,
- 15:15this is our digital awareness.
- 15:18Are you aware why you are online?
- 15:24And that's just something to think about
- 15:26and something I want you to think about
- 15:29while we continue being on this journey
- 15:32as we continue to grow.
- 15:35Are we digitally aware of what we are doing
- 15:40with our digital footprint?
- 15:42What are we leaving behind?
- 15:46Because these digital footprints last forever, all right?
- 15:57All right, y'all, I'm about to take a long sleep
- 16:03as the conference starts tomorrow.
- 16:09I am tired, I am jet-lagged, I am hungry,
- 16:14but I am gonna shower, brush my teeth, and go to bed.
