- 0:00Yo, this episode,
- 0:07it's my reflection when David Shans came to Cleveland.
- 0:13Man, I remember it like it was yesterday.
- 0:18I know I had to work the previous night,
- 0:22but it was an early day
- 0:24because he wanted to speak at his school.
- 0:28And just a little backstory,
- 0:32my team was responsible for getting David Shans here
- 0:39in Cleveland.
- 0:41Like I wasn't a part of the deal necessarily,
- 0:45but I was there helping with the organization
- 0:52of the day, the flow of events,
- 0:55and also doing the capturing,
- 0:58the documentary capturing for the day.
- 1:03But originally, David Shans was doing
- 1:10a podcast summit promotion tour
- 1:14and he was going to different cities
- 1:18and he was offering deals
- 1:23for getting him in your city
- 1:27and my team here in Cleveland, Ohio.
- 1:32The pull-up experience was a big part of that deal.
- 1:36You know, there was other factors,
- 1:38but we were responsible for getting him in Cleveland
- 1:45and speaking to our audience,
- 1:48our collective audience of entrepreneurs and podcasters.
- 1:55Like the room was packed
- 2:01and going back to the beginning of the day,
- 2:06you know, meeting up my team
- 2:07and meeting David Shans in person for the first time.
- 2:12Cool man, cool guy, oh my man.
- 2:18I see why he is a successful in business
- 2:22and just how he carried himself
- 2:24and a God-fearing man, a faithful man,
- 2:28man of faith, a great entrepreneur,
- 2:33brilliant talent, amazing interviewer.
- 2:39And got to the school, took some pictures,
- 2:48and then we got the day started.
- 2:53You know, I'm speaking to a young man.
- 2:59It was an all-boys school.
- 3:04And just the, man, it's so much.
- 3:12Just the moments leading up to it is wow.
- 3:20But he gave the students the encouragement
- 3:26and even the game on entrepreneurship
- 3:30a practical and tactical, actionable step to take
- 3:37to make money right that day.
- 3:44He even gave out money to some of the students
- 3:49that took action, quick action, invested in the students.
- 3:57And also the knowledge and encouragement
- 4:02or entrepreneurship, which he is big
- 4:06and preaching entrepreneurship, especially to the youth
- 4:09and giving back excellent motivational speakers.
- 4:17And just all the things.
- 4:18And the things he's into and the things he do.
- 4:22Very successful.
- 4:26I'm pretty sure if he was wanted to pursue
- 4:30that rapping career again, you know,
- 4:32he'd be successful doing music.
- 4:36But yeah, man, just an amazing talent, excellent guy.
- 4:41And then after we left the school,
- 4:46that's kind of when we did the interview.
- 4:53Of course, I'm filming, I'm setting up,
- 4:55setting up lights, I'm setting up mics.
- 4:59You know, getting ready for my team,
- 5:01you know, to pull up experience,
- 5:03to interview David Shands of the Social Proof Podcast.
- 5:10It was amazing.
- 5:14It was like a dream come true for a lot of our team.
- 5:20Getting him to Cleveland was still a dream.
- 5:23Like, yeah, we got to do business,
- 5:24but we got to get you here in Cleveland
- 5:26some way somehow and get you on the podcast.
- 5:28And we did all of that.
- 5:35And just going back to episode, what was that?
- 5:39200, episode 200 of the pull-up experience
- 5:42of Mr. David Shands.
- 5:47Man, I listen to it often.
- 5:49One of the pull-up experience podcast episodes
- 5:53I listen to often.
- 5:58And just the wisdom and authenticity,
- 6:03the transparency.
- 6:06And shout out to Donnie Wiggins too,
- 6:09for Transparency Podcast,
- 6:11his co-partner on the Social Proof Podcast.
- 6:14It'd have been amazing to get them both out,
- 6:17but you know, start small.
- 6:21And it was a blessing to have David Shands
- 6:22here in Cleveland and show him around
- 6:25and have him speak to our network, our audience.
- 6:30And after the podcast was the live event
- 6:33where he did speak more to our audience.
- 6:37Now we had a live audience for the podcast as well.
- 6:42And you know, lunch.
- 6:44And then the main event.
- 6:47And he spoke more about podcasting himself.
- 6:52He spoke more about the podcast summit.
- 6:55I think it was what, year two?
- 7:00And even made an offer.
- 7:03I think it was like a Cleveland exclusive offer.
- 7:13And I knew I had to be there.
- 7:17I knew I had to be there.
- 7:18I didn't have a podcast at the time,
- 7:20but of course I was working with a couple podcasts
- 7:26a few years ago.
- 7:28And now I have my own podcast.
- 7:30So it was like, maybe you're planting a seed
- 7:34somewhere down the line or even just the content
- 7:39and Social Proof Podcast itself,
- 7:42somewhere down the line,
- 7:43planting that seed to start a podcast, start a podcast.
- 7:46Really start another podcast.
- 7:48This is my second podcast as I had another podcast
- 7:52called Lyrical Logic when I was a musician.
- 7:58Interviewing different spoken word artists, poets, writers,
- 8:05and musicians, breaking down different lyrics
- 8:10of songs, poems, and also their body of work
- 8:16and have them perform.
- 8:19It was also an audio podcast.
- 8:21That's why I'm so big on audio.
- 8:23Cause it's like, I got to do it right there
- 8:25in a moment, we don't got to worry about the lights
- 8:26and is it filming, is it still recording?
- 8:29It cuts off at 30 minutes, really 29 and 59 seconds.
- 8:34So I was like, yeah, I don't even worry about that.
- 8:37Just set up a nice clean microphone and speak.
- 8:43It's a beauty, it's more authentic this way to me,
- 8:46at least like that old school radio
- 8:49and having those interviews.
- 8:52Video was good too and I do a lot of video.
- 8:54I have a production company, media company.
- 8:58So I mean, video is important.
- 9:01I just don't focus on it.
- 9:04But I do have clips here and there.
- 9:07But yeah, I knew when David Shams made that offer though
- 9:14it was something I had to get on.
- 9:15I'm glad I did.
- 9:19And not only a lot of our team,
- 9:22I think everybody from our team went
- 9:24except for one person that year, year or two.
- 9:32And not only that me and the team went,
- 9:42which is amazing to have a whole team in another city.
- 9:47I'm talking about it was like eight, nine of us.
- 9:52But like, man, we also had a lot of people
- 9:56from Cleveland come out and show out.
- 9:59And that's just the testimony of build your community
- 10:06and invite people in.
- 10:08If we didn't have a network or a good community
- 10:12or supporting community and people that believed in us,
- 10:17he wouldn't have a lot of Clevelanders in Atlanta
- 10:24for the podcast summit and giving him the opportunity
- 10:28to speak to our audience.
- 10:31And that just was a big trade-off for
- 10:36us coming to the podcast summit
- 10:38and he introducing us to his audience
- 10:41and people that follow him as well.
- 10:45So it's just amazing to invest in yourself.
- 10:50I think that's the biggest thing.
- 10:53I know he invested in himself.
- 10:56So again, invest in yourself.
- 11:00It's a critical thing for you, your life, your business,
- 11:04your family, it's important.
- 11:09But yeah, I just want to announce that
- 11:11this podcast summit 2026,
- 11:15man, you can find the whole team
- 11:17with a pull-up experience
- 11:18and also creative frequency at the podcast summit 2026.
- 11:25We're going to be vendors this year, so stay tuned to that.
- 11:30Don't know which booth, but that's just us
- 11:33being a testimony of investing in yourself.
- 11:37This is important.
- 11:38And even if we're attending the podcast summit itself
- 11:44and just attending and going to the workshops and sessions,
- 11:49we're still investing in ourselves.
- 11:51So either way, we're investing in ourselves,
- 11:53taking that bet on us and trusting the process
- 11:58and what David Shands has built and continue to build
- 12:02and everything he do.
- 12:04Man, he deserve all the flowers that I have.
- 12:10Looking up to him as an entrepreneur and leader
- 12:14and what he's done with the entrepreneur community
- 12:20and non-podcast community and beyond,
- 12:25it's amazing.
- 12:26And just seeing his journey in the fitness,
- 12:33not even had a chance to have a run with him
- 12:36before day two of the podcast summit 2025.
- 12:43It was supposed to be a walk,
- 12:45but it ended up being whoever wanted to walk,
- 12:48and whoever wanted to run, run.
- 12:51He started off running, but 20 seconds in,
- 12:54he was up there with us with the runners
- 12:57and had a good time, man.
- 12:59I think he was like top three or who all.
- 13:01It was like 150 of us between walking and running.
- 13:07So just to see all that in the community
- 13:09between other podcasters and entrepreneurs,
- 13:13it was amazing.
- 13:14It's just to have the opportunity and get that sweat in
- 13:17before the day has started.
- 13:19We started writing early,
- 13:22and I had a chance to take a shower, eat,
- 13:24talk to my lady before the summit.
- 13:27So it was just an amazing day,
- 13:29amazing experience and getting the bluffs on
- 13:32and the motivation rocking.
- 13:36Man, just an amazing entrepreneur,
- 13:41amazing builder, community-driven faith,
- 13:49man, so many things, like I say,
- 13:53just motivator to this resilience and curiosity,
- 13:58which is kind of funny because everybody asking them.
- 14:05To me, it was like deep questions,
- 14:07but I had a chance to ask them a question.
- 14:10I'm like, man, I've never seen a bad interview from you.
- 14:14What are some of the things that you've done
- 14:15or some of the things that you do
- 14:17to prepare for these interviews
- 14:19or how you always ask good questions?
- 14:22Like, what's the secret?
- 14:24It was like, just stay curious.
- 14:28It was like, just stay curious.
- 14:33So that was definitely well-received.
- 14:37Just the curiosity of the things to help you build.
- 14:43Like a lot of the greats were curious and asked questions.
- 14:49And maybe that is a testimony of why
- 14:52I started another podcast.
- 14:55Like I had a podcast, Lyrical Logic,
- 14:57back in the day when I was a musician,
- 15:00interviewing poets, spoken word artists and musicians.
- 15:04And it's often from time to time.
- 15:07And we break down different lyrics and songs and poems
- 15:11and have them share their body of work and perform.
- 15:16And then we break down one of their songs or poems.
- 15:20So yeah, that was a great moment in time for me,
- 15:24but I didn't publicly publish it.
- 15:27I just had a lot of recorded episodes,
- 15:29which I may even drop very soon,
- 15:34just as extra content.
- 15:37It could be like my little science experiment.
- 15:42But just like the little seeds and nuggets,
- 15:46he planned it to help me be where I'm at now
- 15:51and even start my own podcast.
- 15:54As the director or film in the behind the scenes
- 15:58of a couple podcasts.
- 16:01So it is just a testimony of the little things
- 16:06that David Shands do and help motivate others
- 16:11and encourage others.
- 16:14And like I said,
- 16:17you deserve the flowers and there's the flowers.
- 16:19And keep doing what you got to do
- 16:22to be who you got to be because you are doing that.
- 16:28Keep being amazing.
- 16:30Keep being phenomenal.
- 16:32Keep being inspiring.
- 16:34Keep being powerful.
- 16:35Keep leading.
- 16:38Keep doing big things.
- 16:40So I see everyone at Podcast Summit 2026.

- 16:59We're like, yeah, let's talk to the community.
