- 0:00This is what 33 minutes of sleep look like.
- 0:0933 minutes of rest.
- 0:13I'm talking about past nine a.m. still up filming,
- 0:22photographing an event, come home,
- 0:28made lunch, recording this podcast.
- 0:34Cause I set alarms and I was supposed to take
- 0:39a two hour, two hour sleep session, two hour nap.
- 0:43I know it doesn't always, you know,
- 0:47work out when you lay in the bed,
- 0:49especially when you got a lot of things to do,
- 0:52a lot on your mind.
- 0:53Like I had an event that I'm very tired to
- 0:58because of the work they do.
- 1:03I see the passion, I see the dedication.
- 1:06I genuinely want to help.
- 1:12So just laying there, just thinking about it
- 1:17and just thinking about my day, thinking about my week.
- 1:20I'm like, I know I got to get this sleep,
- 1:24but I just couldn't.
- 1:26So by the time I tie myself,
- 1:30it was like 34 minutes left.
- 1:34So I take away that minute that I had to, you know,
- 1:38really close my eyes tight and fall asleep.
- 1:42I'll just say 33 minutes.
- 1:44So there's maybe less than that, honestly.
- 1:47You know, let's just say 33 minutes of rest or less
- 1:52and still perform it at a high level.
- 1:56And I'm gonna show you the picture
- 1:57or if you look up alienized photos on all media,
- 2:02mainly Instagram, alien eyes with a Z,
- 2:07photos with a S, alienized photos.
- 2:12I'ma post it.
- 2:13Look out for the one that says Iris series.
- 2:15Like if you see all the posts, Iris,
- 2:21it's that next post.
- 2:22The next post is gonna be that picture.
- 2:2633 minutes of rest or less,
- 2:32but this is not a one-time thing.
- 2:35Like there's many times, many days I've done this.
- 2:39Like people wouldn't know I did a whole 12-hour wedding
- 2:43of one or two hours of sleep, like 90 minutes.
- 2:51And this season, I guess, of my life,
- 2:59which has been going on for a while,
- 3:02this period in my life,
- 3:07someone was like, just go hard, do it.
- 3:11And I'm surprised at myself
- 3:13that I show up and perform the way that I do.
- 3:21But it just goes back to the passion and hard work
- 3:27that the people that I work with
- 3:29and the people that I'm helping
- 3:31documenting their work, their journey is powerful.
- 3:40So what keeps me up is the hard work
- 3:45that everyone else does.
- 3:48And it's like, man, I have to go harder.
- 3:51Even if that costs me sleep, I do a lot, you know,
- 4:01having children, having one or two businesses managing
- 4:11and co-managing different businesses,
- 4:16whether if you're fully in or not.
- 4:21Being a part of different brands,
- 4:24just having that personal time, being in a relationship.
- 4:30You know, I always say I'm writing a book.
- 4:32I'm always writing a book.
- 4:34I'm writing multiple books at the same time.
- 4:37That's just how my brain operates.
- 4:39Like, oh, this thought should go in this book
- 4:42or this thing, this, this.
- 4:44That's why I started this podcast.
- 4:45Just so, or one of the reasons,
- 4:49just so I could have a lot of these thoughts documented
- 4:54and, you know, I cut out what I love the most
- 4:59from these episodes and just telling you first.
- 5:03I put it in the book.
- 5:05I've already have a lot, like this is 60 plus episodes
- 5:11and this is all in a book.
- 5:14I'm doing my first 100 episodes
- 5:17because we going to a million episodes.
- 5:19We don't have a million episodes.
- 5:21I don't think anybody ever done it,
- 5:23but that's my big ambitious goal.
- 5:26I'm not going to retire till I hit a million episodes.
- 5:32So that's wild and ambitious, right?
- 5:36But this type of stuff that keeps me up,
- 5:38okay, I said I gonna do this, so let's do it.
- 5:44Let's really make it happen and it can happen
- 5:50because anything is possible.
- 5:54Anything is possible.
- 5:57But like I said, this is what keeps me up.
- 6:0133 minutes of rest.
- 6:04They say you supposed to get six and a half
- 6:10to nine hours, really just eight hours of rest each day.
- 6:16You left with 16, probably working eight and a half hours.
- 6:27You know, the little lunch break is kind of though
- 6:29and add time or sometimes even nine,
- 6:31but even a commute average 20 to 30 minutes away
- 6:36from your employment or even your business.
- 6:42Sometimes we are working in our business,
- 6:48same like a job, you know, still clocking in,
- 6:51clocking out, even though we have more ownership,
- 6:57but in the beginning stages,
- 6:59it's going to be like another job
- 7:01until you can work on your business
- 7:05and build your business, build a team,
- 7:08grow a team, nourish a team, continue to build and grow.
- 7:15You're not going to be working in it so much.
- 7:17You're going to constantly be working on it
- 7:19and molding it and multiplying it
- 7:22and make sure everyone else is well
- 7:25because if they're not, that team falls.
- 7:30That's why I'm so big on teamwork
- 7:32and I'm so thankful for the teams that I'm a part of
- 7:36and the teams that I've built
- 7:38and the teams that I'm building
- 7:40and the people that want me on their team,
- 7:45I value teamwork.
- 7:46That's how you get a lot done, honestly.
- 7:51Like basketball really showed me that
- 7:56in middle school, high school,
- 7:58even to this day as I am 33.
- 8:05Yeah, actually my born day is coming up soon.
- 8:09Iris, number 33, season 33.
- 8:17But basketball showed me that teamwork is so valuable
- 8:24critically and adding the communication part.
- 8:27Like you got to communicate when you're out there.
- 8:30There's just so many aspects that I apply to life
- 8:34and also business, like basketball was that way.
- 8:38Say basketball and chess, the game of chess.
- 8:43Basketball and chess, those two, man.
- 8:49That's life for me.
- 8:52It helps me think in a more strategic way
- 8:55and more calculated way versus just waking up,
- 8:59oh, what's going on?
- 9:00No, it's calculating and putting plans together,
- 9:04agendas together and really following it
- 9:07and really being in that and really doing it
- 9:10and doing the work.
- 9:12Sometimes you just got to sit down, relax,
- 9:16recollect your mind, recollect your thoughts, focus.
- 9:21Take a nap.
- 9:23And I'm big on naps.
- 9:25And after this, I'm definitely taking a nap.
- 9:28I'm probably going to just go to sleep all together.
- 9:32But I have an engagement, I had to be up at 9.30.
- 9:37So let's see how far that goes.
- 9:39It's currently five.
- 9:43So four hours, I could do this, four hours, yeah.
- 9:47Half days of sleep, see how I do that?
- 9:49Eight, half of that is four.
- 9:51So I kind of got half.
- 9:53But tomorrow, I'm definitely resting.
- 9:56I promise you all that.
- 9:57I promise.
- 9:58I know that everybody be concerned like,
- 10:00oh, did you get your sleep?
- 10:01Did you get your rest?
- 10:02How much sleep you get today?
- 10:03Because they know me.
- 10:05Oh, I got two hours of sleep.
- 10:07Go home, get your rest.
- 10:09And that's how my circle, my community, my peers,
- 10:13or people that just know me,
- 10:15know how much I really be out here
- 10:18and building and building and building.
- 10:21I appreciate you all.
- 10:23Appreciate the reminders
- 10:24and encourage me to keep getting more rest.
- 10:27Like, trust me, I have my seasons, y'all.
- 10:30Like, I do not disturb and nine hours straight.
- 10:34I'm talking about blackout room, blackout curtains,
- 10:37no, nothing.
- 10:40Just peace and sleep.
- 10:43I try to do that at least twice a week.
- 10:46Try to shoot for that eight, nine hours.
- 10:49But sometimes, I get five, six,
- 10:52which is decent, especially for me.
- 10:56You know, I'm not getting 33 minutes of sleep.
- 10:59Sometimes two hours.
- 11:01Sometimes broken up an hour here,
- 11:04a couple hours here.
- 11:06You know, so, one day I will get it together, y'all.
- 11:11And the day that I do,
- 11:13I know I can give way much more to you.
- 11:18But for right now, I'm gonna keep going.
- 11:23And then after this episode, I'm getting some rest.
- 11:28And I'm about to do that right now
- 11:29and I feel my energy dropping.
- 11:31So, I want to thank everyone that continues to listen
- 11:36and follow my journey, my creative entrepreneur journey
- 11:42as I do a lot.
- 11:45I support a lot of initiatives and events
- 11:50and people and businesses.
- 11:53Sometimes I just coach them as they coach me.
- 11:59Because the more I hear their story,
- 12:01the more I'm inspired
- 12:03and the more positive thoughts I think,
- 12:06like, man, I never thought about this in this way.
- 12:10Like, your story really inspired me
- 12:12or helped me think in a different way,
- 12:15like, a different perspective
- 12:19that could be much easier for the human civilization.
- 12:25So, I appreciate everyone that
- 12:29was on Alienize Photos' industry talk.
- 12:33I appreciate y'all, giving y'all stories,
- 12:37y'all personality, y'all thoughts.
- 12:40Just a conversation with me.
- 12:43I appreciate that.
- 12:46And I always wish you great success.
- 12:49And those who listen, and I wish you success as well,
- 12:52as you could be one of those people,
- 12:54just like everyone I interview, are even better.
- 12:59And reach out to them, connect with them.
- 13:01You know, I had a lot of great guests on.
- 13:05That's season two of my podcast.
- 13:08So, season one, just for a reminder,
- 13:11season one is mostly my solo episodes
- 13:13and my personal journey and my business topics
- 13:16that I talk about around creative entrepreneurs
- 13:21and whom I serve the most, business owners.
- 13:26Season two is more of my interviews,
- 13:29where I do have that more long form,
- 13:34an hour, hour and a half, two hours, sometimes three,
- 13:40conversation with guests in my network
- 13:43or who I feel's story needs to be heard.
- 13:47And we talk business
- 13:49and what business lessons can I learn.
- 13:53I mean, we've been talking with people in the food
- 13:56and agriculture realm, sector,
- 14:03you know, because food and food justice is important.
- 14:06So, I wanna get those stories
- 14:08and how they look at it as a business
- 14:10and how are they running their business operations
- 14:16compared to, you know, someone that's like me,
- 14:19that's in media and it's a different type of business
- 14:23and different type of field.
- 14:25So, I would love to have more of those conversations
- 14:29as it's coming up soon.
- 14:30So, look out for my series of that
- 14:34and that's all in season two.
- 14:36And I also decided to add season three.
- 14:41It's gonna be a special one.
- 14:44No, I'm not gonna, I was gonna hold it back,
- 14:47but no, I'm gonna just tell you.
- 14:50Season three is gonna be more of my research
- 14:54on historical figures and pioneers in different sectors
- 15:00whom I feel embodies the whole creative entrepreneur.
- 15:07Like, a couple of mine would be like Walt Disney,
- 15:15Steve Jobs.
- 15:18I got a whole African-American list
- 15:27that I wanna go through.
- 15:29And on the top of that is Michael Jackson.
- 15:35I feel like he embodied creative entrepreneurship
- 15:39to a whole nother level
- 15:41and that a lot of people was not aware of.
- 15:47And I always say, joke around,
- 15:50it may be true though, that Michael Jackson is my uncle.
- 15:55Since I'm Steven Jackson, Steve Jackson,
- 16:00photographer Jackson, alien, player Jackson.
- 16:07Michael Jackson was my uncle, Tupac was my father.
- 16:14And that's another person.
- 16:15I'm gonna give y'all just the whole business aspect,
- 16:19my thoughts and research all around
- 16:23what they did as an entrepreneur in my eyes.
- 16:27So look out, it's great.
- 16:31I've started doing research.
- 16:35I think Walt Disney may be that first.
- 16:40Yeah, that's been a long time, like even as a child.
- 16:46Wow, I've never been at Disney World
- 16:49or I've never been to Disneyland,
- 16:51but I do have stock in Disney.
- 16:54So I definitely want to do even more research
- 16:59and give that effort to the first episode.
- 17:04And I want it to be well.
- 17:06So just bear with me.
- 17:08It's gonna take some time on each of these,
- 17:12but that's why you have season one and season two,
- 17:16my solo episodes, which I could do like this,
- 17:20spit out rapidly, say my thoughts.
- 17:24Sometimes I script it, sometimes I don't.
- 17:27More of the business lessons
- 17:29and the things that I teach and preach
- 17:32and try to give insights.
- 17:34I definitely script it, make sure I have some notes
- 17:37or at least an outline or some buzz words
- 17:40that keep me guided, keep me focused
- 17:43and make sure that I'm touching on the points
- 17:45that I need to teach you
- 17:48and open up your mind and perspective.
- 17:51Maybe you heard this concept, maybe you have not.
- 17:54Maybe you heard business done this way,
- 17:57maybe you have not.
- 17:58And that's just my viewpoints on encouraging you
- 18:04to just take a different look and different perspective
- 18:10or at least be open to a different perspective
- 18:12in which I'm doing.
- 18:13So yeah, that's season one, season two and season three.
- 18:19So if I ever hit like a season four or five,
- 18:23just know that I'm constantly building,
- 18:25I'm keeping it organized and organized for a reason
- 18:29as I'm on these different platforms
- 18:33as I'm being distributed out.
- 18:36I know one day I may have my own platform.
- 18:41Yeah, just because I just see the bigger picture,
- 18:44especially coming from a music standpoint,
- 18:47distribution is one of the key ingredients
- 18:51for all my musicians out there.
- 18:54I guess I woke up, I said I was going to take my nap
- 18:58but I think I'm trying to hit 33 minutes now.
- 19:01I'm like 18 minutes in or something like that.
- 19:05Oh my goodness.
- 19:06But no, I'm really about to go to sleep for real.
- 19:10Get my rest and I got to hit this engagement tonight.
- 19:17And then back editing and oh man,
- 19:22I have to clean the studio out tomorrow too
- 19:25so it's going to be interesting.
- 19:28But I get to chat with my team over there tomorrow.
- 19:34So it's going to be great.
- 19:37All right y'all, peace, love and blessings.
