  9. 0:44Why should every business have a podcast,
  10. 0:49even if you're just starting a business?
  11. 0:52Now, a couple years ago I did this talk with my team,
  12. 0:57and we had a couple of experience
  13. 0:58on why every business should have a podcast.
  14. 1:03You had to be at the conference

  16. 1:11And I thought about it, I'm like, well,

  36. 2:44Should have a podcast.
  37. 2:46If you're serious about your business,
  38. 2:49if you sell something, if you teach something,
  39. 2:51or if you want people to know your name, this matters.
  40. 2:56And we could break it down so it's easier to understand.
  41. 3:02Like, what is a podcast?
  42. 3:04A podcast is your own radio show.
  43. 3:08But better, because people choose to listen to you.
  44. 3:13Who?
  45. 3:16You or me?
  46. 3:19You or me?
  47. 3:21They can play it in the car, play it in the gym,
  48. 3:27play it while cooking, play it at work.
  49. 3:30Well, for some of y'all, y'all can play it at work.
  50. 3:32Can't say everybody, but those are the things.
  51. 3:36I listen to podcasts in my car.
  52. 3:39I don't go to the gym as much,
  53. 3:42but I know a lot of people do, and I used to.
  54. 3:45But I'm playing basketball a lot more
  55. 3:47when I go to the gyms.
  56. 3:50So, can't really have headphones or things like that.
  57. 3:55But if I'm working out at the gym,
  58. 3:58I got a podcast on, I'm learning,
  59. 4:01I'm getting different perspectives
  60. 4:04while I'm getting the workout in, getting fit.
  61. 4:08And I might have a cooking show,
  62. 4:11or a cooking podcast on in the background
  63. 4:15as I'm cooking.
  64. 4:16Oh, stir it briskly, add more water.
  65. 4:21It was like, oh yeah, let me do that.
  66. 4:25So, I love to listen to business podcasts.
  67. 4:30I rarely listen to music, and I'm a former musician.
  68. 4:34So for me to say that, I take podcasts seriously,
  69. 4:38not just for myself, but I am a consumer and a producer.
  70. 4:42So yeah, I'm deeply rooted in podcasts,
  71. 4:46and I'm proud to say it.
  72. 4:51So if you start a podcast, you are in their air.
  73. 4:56Who is there?
  74. 4:57Your audience, you're in their air.
  75. 5:01Week after week after week, day after day after day,
  76. 5:04minute after minute after minute,
  77. 5:05year after year after year.
  78. 5:08And that's powerful.
  79. 5:11Why podcasts help your business?
  80. 5:15Let's get straight to it.
  81. 5:16People trust voices more than ads.
  82. 5:22People trust voices more than ads.
  83. 5:25And guess what?
  84. 5:26You can still do the ad.
  85. 5:28So that's a bonus.
  86. 5:30Have a platform so where you can put an ad,
  87. 5:35your ad, your partner's ad, your company's ad.
  88. 5:40Everybody you collaborate at, sell ads on your podcast.
  89. 5:49And when someone hears your voice over time,
  90. 5:52they feel like they know you.
  91. 5:55People feel like they know me.
  92. 5:57Or when I show up on social media
  93. 5:58and they see me in person,
  94. 5:59they feel like they know me.
  95. 6:01Like, oh man, I've been watching you for years.
  96. 6:02I've been listening to your music for years,
  97. 6:04hearing your poetry, reading your books,
  98. 6:06and now listening to my podcast.
  99. 6:11This is called trust.
  100. 6:15You showing up constantly.
  101. 6:19That is called trust.
  102. 6:22And trust leads to sales.
  103. 6:24Think about it.
  104. 6:26Would you rather buy from a random ad
  105. 6:28or someone you've been listening to every week,
  106. 6:32sometimes every day?
  107. 6:36Exactly, right?
  108. 6:38You get it?
  109. 6:39You become the expert.
  110. 6:41You speak on your topic often,
  111. 6:44whatever your business is,
  112. 6:46whatever your expertise is,
  113. 6:47whatever you shine in, your special skill.
  114. 6:50People see you as the go-to person.
  115. 6:53You don't need to be perfect.
  116. 6:55You just need to be helpful.
  117. 7:00Example, you know, since I'm a photographer,
  118. 7:04I got to talk about lighting, clients,
  119. 7:06mistakes, prices.
  120. 7:09How do I shoot photos and videos
  121. 7:12at different events and conferences
  122. 7:15and make it look seamlessly by myself?
  123. 7:21Or if you're a coach and I do coaching as well,
  124. 7:25help you with your ideation sessions
  125. 7:27to build your strategy for your business or podcast.
  126. 7:32We could talk about mindset and growth
  127. 7:35and the wins and the lessons,
  128. 7:37not only for you, but also your clients
  129. 7:41and testimonials.
  130. 7:44And over time, people will say,
  131. 7:47this person knows their stuff,
  132. 7:52in which I'm telling them about podcasts.
  133. 7:55You are a business, are you in business?
  134. 7:59Consider starting a podcast
  135. 8:01and I could be a podcast producer
  136. 8:03even if you film it yourself,
  137. 8:07I can still assist.
  138. 8:08I can still help and be of assistance.
  139. 8:12It grows your brand without extra work.
  140. 8:17And here's where we get crafty.
  141. 8:21One podcast, many pieces of content.
  142. 8:24That's how I always look at it.
  143. 8:26When I film people's podcasts,
  144. 8:29you have so many pieces of content,
  145. 8:31so many different talking points,
  146. 8:33so many leverage points,
  147. 8:35especially if you do it right
  148. 8:36and you're a great, eloquent speaker
  149. 8:38and know how to deliver.
  150. 8:40And I'm in training, I'm practicing.
  151. 8:44Like this podcast is a testimony to that.
  152. 8:48I'm just speaking my expertise
  153. 8:49and my journey and my knowledge,
  154. 8:51my lessons, my mistakes, my growth,
  155. 8:56my wisdom,
  156. 8:59giving it back.
  157. 9:01And I've done like many master classes
  158. 9:06on this podcast platform,
  159. 9:08Alien Eyes Photos Industry Talk.
  160. 9:11I gave many master classes
  161. 9:16and some is me documenting my journey
  162. 9:19and different events.
  163. 9:23So it's like a well-rounded, well-oiled.
  164. 9:26Anybody from any industry can take in
  165. 9:30and dissect, and that's how we all grow.
  166. 9:36And I love to listen to other people's podcasts
  167. 9:38and other people's minds and perspectives
  168. 9:40and their journey, their story,
  169. 9:44how they grew, and it's amazing.
  170. 9:48You can too.
  171. 9:50You could turn one episode into clips
  172. 9:54for social media, you know, quotes,
  173. 9:57or you could do the carousels,
  174. 9:59which are different quotes from your episode,
  175. 10:03blog posts, emails.
  176. 10:07I got a few ideas
  177. 10:09that I'm not gonna share in this podcast,
  178. 10:10but if you book a consultation,
  179. 10:13I'm gonna just let loose and give you some great ideas.
  180. 10:17Let's book an ideation session and tell you.
  181. 10:22So instead of trying to create every day,
  182. 10:26we'll create once
  183. 10:28and share many times off that one episode.
  184. 10:33So think about if you have many episodes,
  185. 10:35now you're seeing the benefits of a podcast, no?
  186. 10:39You don't?
  187. 10:40Okay, well, let's talk about
  188. 10:44how people could find you on Google.
  189. 10:49And this is a big one, S-E-O.
  190. 10:53And this is something I focus on
  191. 10:55and been studying from the last few years
  192. 10:58also bringing it to my clients and also my podcast.
  193. 11:01That's how my podcast has been discovered
  194. 11:03and not just U.S., but in other countries.
  195. 11:08It's a big one, telling.
  196. 11:10When your podcast,
  197. 11:13you could transcript it,
  198. 11:16turn it into a blog, that's something I do.
  199. 11:19You know what I'm saying?
  200. 11:19I'm giving you the sauce.
  201. 11:20Is this too much?
  202. 11:21Is this too much?
  203. 11:24So I know I'm just getting started,
  204. 11:26but it might be too much,
  205. 11:27especially for somebody just beginning.
  206. 11:29And I'm like, what?
  207. 11:31You could do all this.
  208. 11:32I can do all this.
  209. 11:33I should do all this,
  210. 11:36but you don't do all of this?
  211. 11:37I can help you.
  212. 11:38Let me help you with the right keywords
  213. 11:43so people could find you when they search
  214. 11:48like how to start a business.
  215. 11:51If you talk about that on your podcast,
  216. 11:53guess what?
  217. 11:54You may pop up.
  218. 11:56Or someone else who wrote about it or talked about it
  219. 11:59may pop up,
  220. 12:00but you are a valid candidate for that.
  221. 12:05If your podcast talks just about that one thing
  222. 12:09that you specialize in,
  223. 12:10one thing that your business focus on,
  224. 12:13you will show up.
  225. 12:15And you will show up
  226. 12:18by showing up for yourself first.
  227. 12:22That means free traffic.
  228. 12:25No ads needed.
  229. 12:27And that's what I focus on.
  230. 12:28No ads.
  231. 12:29Do I run ads from time to time?
  232. 12:33Not really.
  233. 12:34I may boost posts,
  234. 12:36but not really run an ad.
  235. 12:39But that may be changing soon.
  236. 12:42That may be changing,
  237. 12:43especially as I get these products finalized
  238. 12:48and I got my book finalized.
  239. 12:52Know I've been working on it for some time,
  240. 12:54but I wanted to make sure it was ready to go
  241. 12:56before I release it to the public for you all
  242. 13:00to make it an evergreen thing.
  243. 13:03So I just make it one time in the whole world scene.
  244. 13:08Well, let me share some stats.
  245. 13:12Look at some real numbers.
  246. 13:15Like I said, close to 500 million listeners
  247. 13:20listen to podcasts worldwide.
  248. 13:26And around 80% of the listeners stay
  249. 13:28for most of the episode.
  250. 13:30Podcast listeners are more likely to buy
  251. 13:33after hearing about a product on the podcast.
  252. 13:37Many people listen to one hour each day.
  253. 13:42That's seven hours or seven plus hours,
  254. 13:45excuse me, per week.
  255. 13:49Seven plus hours per week.
  256. 13:51Even if it was seven hours, that's one hour a day.
  257. 13:54That's like a class, I call it, you took a class.
  258. 13:59Think about that every day, every week.
  259. 14:03What about people that listen to podcasts three
  260. 14:07hours a day?
  261. 14:09That's 21 hours a week.
  262. 14:13And if you listen to the right podcast
  263. 14:15or other podcasts in your industry,
  264. 14:19you get to find out the news of what's going on,
  265. 14:21the changes, the updates, what other companies are doing.
  266. 14:25How can you collaborate with this other business
  267. 14:28or entity or person?
  268. 14:30Maybe they have a product that complements your product
  269. 14:33and now you both went in and you're being a guest
  270. 14:39on each other's podcast.
  271. 14:42And you bring each other's audience
  272. 14:45and you both build and grow through collaboration.
  273. 14:50And what does that mean?
  274. 14:53People are not just listening,
  275. 14:56they are paying attention.
  276. 14:58And attention equals opportunity.
  277. 15:03It's easier than you think, a lot of people say.
  278. 15:05I don't have the time.
  279. 15:07I don't know what to say.
  280. 15:09I don't know the right gear or what to buy.
  281. 15:18That's the beauty of me.
  282. 15:23Just being into media,
  283. 15:27having media business,
  284. 15:28I kind of had a head start on all of that.
  285. 15:32Not saying that I don't know what to say every time.
  286. 15:35I know y'all probably heard some episodes like,
  287. 15:38he got a good point.
  288. 15:39And then other times it's like,
  289. 15:43let's talk about it a little more.
  290. 15:49But it's all practice is repetition
  291. 15:51and then the better you get is by showing up
  292. 15:55and doing it.
  293. 15:56Getting your reps,
  294. 15:58that's creative frequencies biggest thing,
  295. 16:01getting our reps.
  296. 16:03Gotta get our reps in.
  297. 16:04If we don't get our reps in,
  298. 16:06then how are we gonna grow?
  299. 16:09But let me simplify it.
  300. 16:12Let's talk about gear.
  301. 16:14What you need is a quiet space like this one,
  302. 16:20a clear message,
  303. 16:22a phone in or a simple microphone.
  304. 16:27You may have a recorder.
  305. 16:31Record yourself like that.
  306. 16:34But everybody has a phone.
  307. 16:37Like 99% of the world have a phone,
  308. 16:41smartphone that you can record your audio.
  309. 16:44These mics nowadays are decent,
  310. 16:48especially for just getting started.
  311. 16:51In fact, I'm recording this episode on my phone
  312. 16:55with wireless mics hooked up to my phone.
  313. 16:59That's just a little hack.
  314. 17:01Nothing special, no bells and whistles.
  315. 17:03And that's why I love audio.
  316. 17:05People are like, oh, we should do video on this.
  317. 17:07Like the time for me to put out audio
  318. 17:11and handling other people's content and clients
  319. 17:16and being at events and having coaching sessions
  320. 17:20and being out with my daughter and in a relationship.
  321. 17:24So I gotta spend time with the missus.
  322. 17:27This is time.
  323. 17:30But with audio, I accelerate that time
  324. 17:33and I can pump out even more content
  325. 17:35and be more discoverable on Google
  326. 17:39and showing up for my business.
  327. 17:42There will be videos from time to time,
  328. 17:44but that's not my main focus.
  329. 17:47See where I'm going with it?
  330. 17:48Just get started.
  331. 17:49And that's it.
  332. 17:51You don't need to be fancy.
  333. 17:53You just need to get started.
  334. 17:55Your first episode won't be perfect.
  335. 17:57By no means it won't be perfect.
  336. 18:00And that's okay.
  337. 18:02No one starts perfect.
  338. 18:05At least that I know of.
  339. 18:07I know I didn't start perfect.
  340. 18:10You know, some real life examples.
  341. 18:11Let's say you run a business, if you're not in business
  342. 18:14and you are creative looking to be
  343. 18:16an entrepreneur or business owner.
  344. 18:19I call that a creative entrepreneur.
  345. 18:21You gotta run your creative mind, just like a business.
  346. 18:27And then you start a podcast
  347. 18:29and you share your journey, your tips, your stories.
  348. 18:35And after a few weeks,
  349. 18:36people start recognizing your voice.
  350. 18:40And after a few months, people start reaching out.
  351. 18:43Year after year, you have a library of content
  352. 18:48working for you and guess what?
  353. 18:5124 seven, working for you 24 seven.
  354. 18:56Because it's evergreen, it's out there.
  355. 19:01And that is the long game.
  356. 19:03Podcasting is a long game strategy.
  357. 19:08It's like SEO.
  358. 19:11That's why you pair well together.
  359. 19:15Let's talk about some more benefits.
  360. 19:20Like most people don't just talk about it.
  361. 19:22A podcast builds relationships.
  362. 19:26And as I bring different people on from different industries,
  363. 19:30I am building relationships, not just with them,
  364. 19:34but my audience and also their audience.
  365. 19:37People who support him or his clients
  366. 19:41listening in to my podcast for his episode.
  367. 19:46And we both build.
  368. 19:51And you know, you could do a solo
  369. 19:55or you can leverage other people's audiences,
  370. 20:00help promote other people businesses
  371. 20:02by interviewing other people,
  372. 20:06connect with other business owners
